School of Balance

This elementary school is located at the heart of a small lagoon named Ice House Pond, directly across from the larger Morses Pond in Wellesley, MA. The building’s hovering classrooms and gentle, petaled curvature mimic the floatation of water lilies blooming in the natural landscape. The school is themed around balance, centered around five modules — an auditorium, a cafeteria, a large art and music room, a room for special education, and an outdoor space for recreation and play. Additionally, the non-orthogonal nature of the building allows for experimental spaces that are both calming and fun.
