Aoyama Car Park
The proposed parking structure is a testament to the convergence of cultural symbolism, technological innovation, and urban functionality. Inspired by the ubiquitous Toto toilet, a cultural icon in 21st-century Japan, the structure aims to embody the enigmatic nature of the toilet as a space where privacy, comfort, and bodily anesthetization coalesce. Situated on a 3500 square meter plot adjacent to Tokyo's Roppongi Hills and Aoyama Park, the building further embraces ambiguity. The site, serving as an unconventional nexus between luxury districts, residential spaces, and a discreet U.S. military base, becomes a canvas for unconventional innovation. Understanding the site's dynamic nature, particularly its role as a refuge for taxi drivers during breaks, the proposal introduces an automated parking system. This system not only addresses practical needs but also echoes the ethos of the Toto toilet – an ambiguous space where diverse activities find a home.
